Stamps~Re-post

Laurel in stamps dress, Robert in rocket shirt. He thinks he got the better deal. A strip of that skirt fancyband ribbon, measuring the exact width of the armhole, has been stitched down at either end of the casing. The ribbon is simply whipped with thread in the center and tacked through the elastic and casing. This gives the illusion of a bow.

Aw, shucks, Laurel!

“Stamps” are quick and easy machine embroidery embellishments for anything from baby knits to adult clothing.  Somehow, photos of my “stamped” pink onesie and hat have disappeared.  But you can trust me when I tell you it was very, very cute.  And quick and easy.

For readers, machine embroidery design for these little squares are free and available in three sizes:  1-1/2″, 1-3/4″ and 2 1/2″.  You simply insert a design small enough to fit into that square.  Also included is one stamp with a bumblebee.

the honest-to-goodness Snow White with 6 year old Laurel, Snow White Jr.

This Disney Snow White costume/dress has more lives than a lucky cat.  It just keeps coming back!  Laurel’s homeschool group just spent the day at  Epcot and her mother sent this picture of Laurel wearing her favorite princess dress with Snow White Herself.

Mickey Mouse Outfit

Our son took his family to DisneyWorld on Mother’s Day to celebrate Laurel’s 6th birthday. Her princess shirt was shown in a previous post and, as expected, our little Disney Princess fan loved it.

Robert’s tee shirt features a 5×7 Mickey from the Big Magic card. The added grass is from Fil Tire’ and Fancywork Elements, a collection done by Suzanne Sawko and me. I use this grass very frequently. Somehow, to my eye, it just doesn’t seem right to have a figure floating on a shirt, walking on air. So I often add the grass as a foothold. Continue reading →

Cinderella Fan

For Laurel’s 6th birthday, the family is going to DisneyWorld.  Like most post-toddler to pre-teen girls, she is fascinated by the Disney Princesses.  Her Cinderella panties are always the first to be selected when the fresh laundry is folded and put in her drawer.

I’ve always made matching outfits for Laurel and Robert to wear to DisneyWorld. They enjoy knowing that no one else in the world has an outfit just like theirs.

For each visit, Laurel wears her latest Minnie dress and Robert his newest Mickey Jon-Jon, the outfits coordinated in fabric and primary mouse colors, red, black and white. Just 15 months apart in age, they are nearly the same size and always draw admiring glances. Continue reading →

Dirty Laundry

I’ve mentioned my good friend Sue Lord and all of her talents before (www.suelord.com).    Her ever -flowing creative ideas and strong influence on my sewing projects require that I give her credit and thanks yet again.

Sue designed the dirty laundry bag project. It was featured in one of the machine embroidery magazines and is included in her embroidery collection Gifts for Women.  This collection has something for everyone and is just fabulous.

Sue, ever the Southern gentlewoman, stitched her dirty laundry bag in feminine pastels. But the text is just suggestive enough to make me think of black lingerie.

The bag is made from ivory polished cotton with black doubleface satin ribbon running through the casing.  I almost always prefer ivory over white.  On this project, it softens the harshness of the black stitching.  Continue reading →

Stamps

This is one of Laurel’s favorite dresses. She loves the butterfly “stamps” and I like the versatility of the sundress/jumper pattern, Hanna, from Collars, Etc.  It can be smocked or not.

The ribbon is simply whipped with thread in the center, mimicking the knot of a bow, and tacked through the elastic and casing. This gives the illusion of a bow.

Made from brown Imperial broadcloth, the neckline and shoulder ruffle are edge stitched with pink thread. Stitched to wide pink grosgrain ribbon is a brown grosgrain with pink polka dots.

Laurel’s 4th birthday dress

 

When Laurel hit her Princess phase at four, she chose Minnie Mouse as the theme for her birthday dress and party.  Of course, I made a matching outfit for Robert.

The children have needed Disney outfits since their first trip to the Magic Kingdom 2 years ago. Even though we live little more than an hour from DisneyWorld, we can’t seem to get enough of it.

Seeing the wonder in the eyes of these  two little grandchildren as we ride through It’s a Small World makes me believe in magic.  And it restores me to my childhood, at least for the duration of the ride.  It’s true what they say about  grandchildren keeping you young–at least at heart.

 Custom made Disney clothes for the adventure helps build their excitement.  Not that it needs building!   But the attention the children get from the characters just reinterates their Nana’s message, “You are special.”
