UPDATE: While perusing my antique needlework magazines, I came across an article about embroidered parasols. Does anyone know of a pattern or source for the hardware? See article below.
I think this is so neat. Judy Day monogrammed this umbrella for her granddaughter. Whether or not she is the first to do this I can’t say, but I have never heard of it.Â
Judy purchased this umbrella which has little plastic covers that slip over the tip of the spokes. By freeing up the umbrella fabric, she was able to embroider the monogram! I’m sure it took a good bit of maneuvering to keep the mechanical portions of the umbrella supported while the embroidery was being done. But obviously, it can be done!
This was on display at the Babylock dealership where Judy teaches classes.
My two older grandchildren absolutely love umbrellas. Now that they are past the age where they use it for poking and fencing—-well, Laurel is—I would love to embroider one for each of them. Then we can talk about April showers bringing May flowers. This will be fun.
Thanks, Judy. You have such clever ideas!
