Girlie Team Gear

Another Saturday, another game day.  I do love college football.  Today, Clemson nearly toppled Auburn but lost in an overtime.  What a nail biter!

But it brought to mind this little dress, which was probably worn yesterday by a sweet little Clemson fan.

It is another Amy Spriggs creation, made for the daughter of a Clemson Tiger friend.

Her choice of fabrics in Clemson colors is tasteful and creative.  I love the way the white polka dots on orange create interest and suggest texture.  The addition of interesting details–ribbons, rick rack and machine embroidery–give this little popover a real designer look.

Another nice feature of this garment is its versatility for a variety of game day weather patterns.  At a hot South Carolina September game,  a little fan can be relatively cool.  For a cool November game, she can be comfortable with the addition of a shirt and leggings.

Of course, this same basic dress could be made of a cute novelty fabric, with no suggestion of  a sporting theme.  In a relatively short time, a dress for Halloween, Thanksgiving or any other holiday could also be made.

The style of this dress certainly lends itself to the turn tube hem technique (see how-to and other projects in turn tube category).

Thanks for sharing this great little dress, Amy!
