When I first saw the machine embroidery design featuring a  rosy red apple with the text, “of Grandma’s eye,” I thought it would be fun to stitch on an outfit for Alastair in recognition of his other grandmother’s love.
As one design in a newly released collection, it tempted me to buy on sight.  But then I realized that it was the idea that appealed to me as much as the design itself. And I could certainly reproduce a satisfactory facsimile of the design. So I did.
Alastair’s paternal grandmother, “Oma,” adores him as much as I do. So I thought this little ready-to-wear set would give her an extra big smile the next time she sees him.
An appliqué apple with a cute little worm was selected, then surrounded with text using PE-design v. 7. As I often do when using a plaid or gingham check for appliqué, I positioned the fabric diagonally for a more pleasing effect.
The design on the shorts took a little time. I wanted the worm on the apple, but that showed only his head and hat. Using my BuzzXplore, I found a worm in Dakota Collectibles Garden Critters collection.
It was reduced in BuzzSize and positioned  to align with the existing head. The two designs were merged, with a little additional editing, using BuzzEdit2. Can you tell that I love the ultra-user friendly BuzzTools programs?
Every Wednesday, “Oma” meets her sisters, Helen and Jeannette, for an early breakfast before work. It happens that that is the day that Jeannette (see post, Sweetie Pie, http://www.janicefergusonsews.com/blog/?p=3537) babysits Alastair. So once a week, this cherub is like the Little Prince, holding court at a little Ma and Pa diner with his adoring grandmother and two aunties.
Each of these three ladies, as well as this Nana and the rest of his family, can attest to the fact that he is, indeed, the apple of her eye.
