2-Way Guest Towels

Few things are prettier than linen guest towels, embroidered and hemstitched, hanging demurely from the bathroom towel rack.

Most guests, however, are loathe to use them, reluctant to wrinkle the beauties and leave them hanging in the disarray that results when linen is handled.

A good solution is to hang the embroidered linen towels and place a pair of fingertip towels embroidered with a matching or coordinating design on the vanity surface. Guests will readily use the sturdy terry cloth towels.

As I do so often, I used Sue Box’s designs on this set of towels for my daughter’s first home. Sue’s Golden Classics collection is one of my favorites and, like most of her collections, includes coordinating designs. In the collection’s sub-category Gilt Frame, the designs include appliqué, for which a piece of Swiss organdy was used on the linen towel. For the fingertip towel, the design was stitched without the appliqué.

I’ve often given embroidered linen guest towels for bridal showers and housewarmings. From now on, a matching pair of fingertip towels will be included.
