With Thanksgiving over, it’s time to pull out the Christmas pillowcases. This bedtime message gives children  something to think about before “visions of sugar plums dance in their heads.” It is just one more element that adds to the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming festivities.
Before I had grandchildren, I made this pillowcase for a special little boy whom I love very much. His intelligence, imagination and grasp of fantasy delighted me then and continues to do so now. Years ago, 5 year old Grey and I were discussing Santa’s amazing ability to deliver toys to children around the world. This led to further discussion that showed an amazing understanding of geography for a child so young.Â
Thus began one of those sessions that children of that age enjoy so much. In his little sing song voice he listed Santa destinations with which he was familiar. “Santa Claus is coming to Alaska (where his cousin lived). Santa Claus is coming to Orlando. Santa Claus is coming to Ocala. Santa Claus is coming to Gainesville (where he lives). Hurrah!” That dialogue was the inspiration for this pillowcase. Grey was delighted with it.
The fabric is slate blue Imperial broadcloth from Spechler-Vogel, trimmed with ivory chenille rick rack, mimicking mounds of snow beneath the Christmas midnight fliers.  Children love the fuzzy textured zig zags and I use it frequently.
The embroidery design is from Babylock’s Christmas Collection II. The text was added with the Kid Block Font from Monogram Wizard Plus.
Grey will be 12 next month but he still enjoys his personalized holiday pillowcase. Merry Christmas, Sweet Boy.
